A REAL Christian counselor WILL NOT counsel you to leave because you’re *unhappy.* A Christian counselor MAY tell you to leave in the instance of cheating/infidelity (which is biblical grounds for divorce - Matthew 19:9) or in the case of abuse (if your spouse is hurting you or your children, please protect your body, which 1 Cor 6:19 says is the temple of the Holy Spirit, and GET OUT).
But unhappiness? Marriage is not about your happiness. It’s about your holiness.
We wanted out of our marriage and were deeply unhappy - we were looking for the wrong things in each other. Our unhappiness continued until I heard clearly from God to begin to out-love and out-serve my wife like Christ served the church. That service was sacrificial and with NO GUARANTEE of reciprocation. However that service was when our whole marriage turned around, and ironically, we became happy. Seek God with all your heart. Give your spouse to HIM to change. And work on changing yourself and allowing God to refine yourself. It won’t always lead to changes from your spouse and eventual happiness, but a lot of time, it does!
